When you join MenAlive, you are doing more than just becoming part of a choral group; you are becoming part of a family. MenAlive strives to provide a welcoming atmosphere where anyone will find opportunities for musical excellence, high-quality performances, camaraderie, support, volunteerism, and lifelong friends.

OPEN Auditions + info night

MenAlive performs multiple shows each season, and a few weeks before we start rehearsing for an upcoming concert, we’ll hold casual Open Auditions + Info Night where you can learn all the details about joining the MenAlive family.

Info Night also includes open auditions that are informal and relaxed. The audition process is simple, private, and takes about five minutes. The Music Director will get to know you and your musical background and choral experience. If this will be your first choral experience, that’s also fantastic. You’ll be asked to match notes with the piano and sing a few bars of a simple song, like Amazing Grace, My Country Tis of Thee, or Happy Birthday. This is to understand your vocal range and where to place you within the chorus.

Outside of auditions held during each Info Night, open auditions are held after the regular chorus rehearsals for the first three weeks of concert rehearsals. These auditions follow the same relaxed, informal format of the Info Night auditions. Open auditions are usually held in January and July.

Upcoming Shows, Open Auditions + Info Night Dates:

We have two Open Auditions + Info Nights coming up. The first is Sunday, June 1, at 7:00 p.m. and the second is on Sunday, July 27, at 7:00 p.m. Our June night will introduce you to our Pride events that we sing at during June and July. Our July night will introduce you to our holiday show taking place in December.

time commitment

Each season, MenAlive plans two main concerts. Rehearsals are held on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. for approximately four months before each concert. Sectional and Saturday rehearsals may also be called during each concert period. Two dress and technical rehearsals are held the week of the concert.

Additional singing opportunities, such as concert solos, dance acts, or MenAlive’s Small Ensemble a cappella group, will require additional rehearsal time.

Rehearsal attendance is vital to the success of our shows and is managed by our administrative section leaders.

financial commitment

The membership dues for MenAlive members are $115.00 per concert period. This covers the cost of your music, rehearsal tracks, additional costuming, and the rehearsal venue. Scholarships are available upon request.

A tuxedo and accessories are also required for performances. You may purchase or rent your tuxedo for a reasonable cost at many local shops.
